” Cor Jesu Sacratissium” 12″x24″ acrylic on canvas by Jessica Ortiz

Born and raised in Santa Fe, NM, Jessica creates contemporary murals, painting, and mixed media artworks. She is inspired by the traditional Santa Fe style religious icons, Catholic saints, Dia de los Muertos and how they all intertwine with our modern world.

Experimenting with aleatoric processes, Ortiz formalizes the unintentional and emphasizes the conscious. Ortiz chose to focus on subject matters that are rich with cultural connotation. Her thought processes which are highly subjective and unfiltered in their references to dreamworlds, space and time are frequently revealed as Lowbrow Art.

Ortiz’ paintings feature coincidental, accidental and unexpected connections which make it possible to grasp the concept of what is on the “ other side” and even better to compliment the here and now. Combining art, science and religion lead to surprising analogies. All of her pieces are all expressions of what is considered to reflect spiritualism at its core.
